No Books Math
Yes, it's been done and test scores
have improved!

Firecrackinmama (FCM) taught 7th &
8th grade math (1995) with great
results from her
Kite Task
Performance Project. Text books
were distributed the first day of school
and
not opened again until the last
day of school when they were returned.

Many versions of the original Kite  task
performance Projects are floating
around on the Internet but now the real
Kite Task Performance Project is about
to make it's way to educators through
Firecrackinmama's site.

Learning can be fun!!

Personal and Social
Growth
learning disability?

In January 2008 I started working on an
Out of District Team monitoring students
who were unable to function within district
schools. I had never done this before so I
thought it was only fitting that I'd accept
the challenge.

My case load is very diverse. I monitor the
severely disabled, autistic, Asberger,
learning disabled and behavior
disordered students.

This past year I was asked to conduct an
in-service meeting focusing on Rubrics. I
hadn't presented in years and if it hadn't
been for one of my supervisors, I can
face. As it was I think it turned out all right.

During my research for the workshop I
came across a school districts that had
developed rubrics for almost everything I
was interested in promoting. They needed
to be tweaked but why re-create the wheel
when you all ready have one.

My favorite rubrics addressed Personal
and Social Responsibilities. So often
students are unaware of what is
acceptable simply because their
behaviors may be acceptable at home
whereas they are not socially accepted in
the school community.

I've used my refined Personal and
Social Growth Rubrics to share with
students in the classroom, checking off
the boxes that are descriptive of their
behaviors. I am now using it as a
device to determine whether behavior
disordered students are able to return
to their district schools. It provides
documentation to those who would
become responsible for their
educational program and what areas
may be problematic.

I tweaked these so that they can be
easily used to monitor any students'
behavior. The below file can be
opened in Word with the ability to
change it to suit your needs.
